Opening Activities / Setting the Stage 

Teacher explains objectives of lesson, tools to be used (quizlet.com, CCTV, and Edmodo.com). Teacher accesses previous learning through use of quizlet.com flashcards of Chinese food vocabulary.

Main Activities - Comprehensible Input 

Teacher asks students to go to http://quizlet.com/6023938/chinese-for-youthlesson-10-flash-cards/ to review vocabulary words for breakfast foods. Teacher models examples of Chinese breakfast foods versus American breakfast foods. 请 你 们 看 生 词 。 豆 浆 是 中 国 早 饭 。咖 啡 是 美 国 早 饭 。

Main Activities - Guided Practice 

Students watch a video from the Chinese television broadcasting company, on breakfast. http://english.cntv.cn/program/learnchinese/20101019/100957.shtml Teacher instructs students to note what the visiting American student requests for breakfast in China. Students should use this video and their general knowledge of American breakfast to distinguish between Chinese and American breakfast foods in the new vocabulary. Teacher asks students to consider the differences using the "or" question structure in the quiz they will take as part of their independent activity.

Main Activities - Independent Practice 

Students take a quiz on Edmodo which will provide immediate feedback on whether a new vocabulary word is Chinese breakfast or American breakfast (是中国早饭还是美国早饭?)。 Reading the target language silently, then selecting answers in the quiz in the target language provides immediate feedback to the students.

Closure 

Students receive their quiz scores from Edmodo.com.
